Growing up in a home of all women (including the dog) except my dad gave me a very one-sided perspective on household etiquette. There were certain things simply considered good manners – common things like the toilet seat properly being in the down position – not necessarily the lid, but absolutely the seat.
Though I was definitely a tom-boy and daddy’s sidekick, I didn’t even consider the view from the “other side” until well into adulthood. So as I began a family of my own, the battle continued. At the beginning, I would be appalled at the man in the house for leaving the seat up. How crude! But over time, things changed and so did my view on this well-worn topic.
